One day, a pastor noticed that a member of the church was not singing during worship. After service he approached the young man and asked him, "Son, I noticed that you don't sing during worship. Why is that and is there I can do anything to help?" The young man replied, "I was not given a good singing voice. Every time I sang in the shower I can hear the water echoing my terrible voice back at me laughing. So I don't sing in the shower anymore. When I recorded myself singing, I sounded like I was reading a book. There is no tune in my voice. So to save the embarrassment, I just don't sing. You don't want to hear me sing either."
The pastor looked at the boy and said, "What would you do if God asked you sing in front of him? Will you deny his request? Will you abandon him?" The young man replied back, "I would say you gave me no such talent to sing, my voice is like a crack to your harmony. If you want, I will but you will be embarrassed by me. The others will laugh and talk and say that why do I even try. That young man has got a terrible voice. He best be silent."
The pastor then replied back, "Young man, God does not care how you sing. You can sound like the angels in perfect harmony or be the one voice that breaks up the harmony. God just don't care. All he wants is for you to shout the him. All he wants is for the whole earth to hear of your joy and happiness. Worship him to the ends of the earth and proclaim his glory. That is all he wants. He never once said anything about having to have a beautiful voice. He never mentioned the standards of what a voice is to be. We judged and determined that. Not him. So will you sing a beautiful song to God or will you let the standards of the world justify you and deter you away from worshipping your God?"
Always remember fellow brothers and sisters, no matter how terrible a voice you have, sing to worship the Lord. No matter if you don't know where to start, start with a single step. Always remember that God listens and it will be the sweetest voice of all.
